The Game |
|
This game recreates the era of the Scandinavian peoples of
the 9th and 10th centuries across 7 scenarios. Completely compatible with the
other games of the medieval series (Cry Havoc, Siege, Samouraï and Croisades), as well as with those in the Dragon
Noir series, VIKINGS develops in particular movement and
combat at sea, and describes with a stunning realism the
tactics of coastal raids. Box
Contents (VIKINGS):
> 2 Sea maps and 4
Coast maps (2 small and 2 large);
> 1 sheet of pre-cut
counters representing the characters of the time;
> 1 sheet of 6
pre-cut boats (3 drakkars: Viking longships, and
3 galiotes: Saxon galleys);
> 1 sheet of 6
rowboats (to be cut out);
> 1 sheet of pre-cut
markers for treasure, speed, grappling hook, axe
and bucket;
> A rules booklet;
> 2 game aid charts
with shooting and combat tables on one side, and
an explanation of the use of the counters and a summary of the
naval
rules on the other side;
> A booklet on the
history of the Vikings illustrated by 7 scenarios;
> One 10-sided die.

The Maps |
The original
version only included 2 maps. The French version replaced
them with 4 full size maps (2 sea map and 2 coastal maps),
plus 2 junction maps to add more tactical situations
(island, river side, etc.). Later on, 4 additional maps were
released separately (The Open Field, The Coast 1&2, The
Ford). |

The Counters |
|
|
The
playing pieces include Earl, Jarls, Huscarls, Berserks and peasants. No two
characters are alike, each has his own name, costume and
combat values, bringing the period faithfully to life. The
markers were unique to the French version.
Note: Unlike the original game, theses counters have adopted
the CROISADES format (higher speed for horses, defense armor
and direction arrow for horses) |
